Ur F.O.: Your Finished Object September

September was a fantastic month for new WIP inspiration. So many talented makers are putting out new kits, patterns, yarn, and books for the first time. Which is not an easy thing to do. You have to come up with the idea and get it ready for other people to test it. But beyond that, you have to overcome the doubts that can hold a lot of makers back from ever releasing patterns of their own.

I was thrilled to find out that several of the makers that are featured in this month’s Ur FOs decided to overcome this doubt. Many of the makers on this list made their patterns or hand-dyed the yarns that they used and the results are fantastic. The good news is that there are new makers for you to shop and admire on this list. The less great news is that your shopping list might have just doubled in size. Don’t blame me, blame them for being so talented!

I’m sad to see September go, but I’m glad that I get to send it off with such an incredibly special group of makers. So get ready to be inspired and let’s dive into this month’s Ur FO list.

\”This headband is my go-to cold-weather accessory and a great option for avoiding hat hair. It’s my favorite project to work on while knitflixing.\”

\”I really loved how simple yet classy this pattern was. The project was very quick and interesting (I’m definitely a project rather than process knitter). I was able to alternate between simple TV watching stockinette and a few rows of lace. I modified the length of the sleeves because I wanted to be able to wear the sweater in Summer. I’m planning to finish knitting them as the weather gets colder.\”

\”I was lucky enough to be chosen to test knit this pattern. What a joy it was to make! I absolutely loved every stitch. The pattern is clear and concise. It is the kind of pattern that is made to be repeated. I am plotting two more!\”

\”Impulse CO to do a #penguonosummerkal hosted by Stephen West. It became such an enjoyable knit with the modular construction & ability to use an unusual color combo that it inspired me to finish in two weeks! My most worn outfit this winter, & even get stopped on the street to ask where they can buy.. which is great for the ego! lol\”
Yarn:
* \”Multitude of deep-stash, scraps, & even some yarn inherited from MIL! Only stipulation -must have mohair through entire project. Random color choices. Though I kept the back dark/neutral & exploded with color on the front & sleeves\”

\”Do you know when you get an idea that sticks in the back of your mind, but life gets busy and you don’t make it? And then you tell your friends about your idea, but you do other projects and you still don’t make it, and FINALLY, you sit down and make it and it’s everything you’ve imagined after living with this idea lingering in your mind for so long? That’s what happened with this series, and it’s so satisfying to see it come to fruition.\”

Yarn:
*Malabrigo Rios in Plomo for the background
*Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash in Winter White for the stars

\”The Hatdana was a joy to make! As a novice knitter, it stretched my skills without being overwhelming, and gave me the confidence to try more knitted projects. It was fun and kept me engaged, and the fact that I got a beautiful accessory in the end was just a plus!\”

Yarn:
*Berroco Ultra Wool in the colorway Butternut

\”This was my first ever brioche design, and only my second brioche project, so I was super nervous that I would screw it up somehow. My patterns never come out the way I initially envision them, but I usually love the finished project even more than the original idea! I named this pattern “Saturday Night” because the Bay City Rollers were on heavy rotation on my playlists while I knit it, and the garter squares and rainbow yarn reminded me of a disco ball. I love connecting the visual art of knitting to my favorite music, and exploring how I can use yarn to express myself and how I’m feeling at a given moment. Now whenever I wear this cowl I’ll have the song in my head too!\”

Yarn:
*Knit the Bed Sock in Rainbow Drops
*Lang Jawoll Superwash in Navy

Pattern:

yelley

\”I loved knitting this because the speckled colors of the yarn are gorgeous and the blending and fading of yarns in the pattern is brilliant! Also the pattern fits a range of sizes and is easy to modify, which is really important to me as a fat woman with measurements that don’t conform to the standards.\”

Yarn:
*From Me To Yarn, Steady Sock, in Fruit Salad (top color), Skittles (middle color), Rainforest (bottom color). @frommetoyarn
