Crafting Horoscopes: December 2019
This is the last month of the decade. I read that somewhere and nearly fell out of my chair. I guess I hadn’t thought about it until that moment. Next month we will be able to say that we were alive in the 20s which is exciting and unbelievable at the same time. As we approach this new decade many of us are going to go through a period of change that could lead to shifts in our creativity. Change isn’t always a strictly good or bad thing. It’s going to be important for all of us to stay open to whatever direction our creative practice takes us. If we can do that we should have a wonderful holiday season ahead of us.
I do want to preface this by saying this is all meant in good fun. So with that said let’s get into your crafting horoscopes for the month of December!
November 22-December 21
Sometimes you have to let go of control. You might be trying too hard to recreate a past WIP instead of letting this current WIP be what it is and embracing the process. Reach out to a trusted crafting friend for advice. They might see your work from a different perspective. This is not the time to dive into a long in-depth project. Make decisions and then move forward. Your crafting practice is your happy place and where you go to think through challenges in your life. But it’s important that you won’t hide in your craft and use it as a distraction from the life stressors you are working through.
Creative Suggestion: Reach out to your local crafting community. This is the perfect time to connect with fellow crafters and get a much appreciated second opinion.
December 22-January 19
Crafting is going to be your happy place this month. But it’s important that you won’t go overboard with the spending. It’s tempting to want to invest in your crafting practice and a little of that is definitely deserved. Your crafting practice will bring you some financial success this month, but it will be moderate at first. Stick to the budget you originally set for yourself. Don’t let this boost in sales convince you to spend more than you should.
Creative Suggestion: Work with the tools you have instead of buying things you don’t really need this month. That way when you are ready to invest in your craft you will have the funds to do it. It’s time to dig through your yarn stash!
January 20-February 18
This time of year can be stressful when it comes to your finances. There will be weeks when things are tighter than others. Continue to put one foot in front of the other. You will find that your creative practice will be a great help to your mood and stress level. Take advice from the people you trust. You trust their opinion for good reason. Reaching out will bring your current WIP to the next level and spark an idea that you never saw coming!
Creative Suggestion: Circle back to a WIP that you already have the supplies for. It will be a huge comfort to you and a great way to craft without breaking the bank.
February 19-March 20
Luckily you’re going into this month with a big boost of energy! That makes this the perfect time to try that craft that you’ve always wanted to attempt. It would also be a fantastic time to collaborate with a close friend. The foundation for this collaboration has been solidifying for a while now. This could bring your friendship closer as long as you don’t doubt your skills. Each of you are bringing something special to the project.
Creative Suggestion: Krista Suh had some great advice for starting creative collaborations in her Behind The Stitches interview. It could be helpful as you get ready to start down this new path.
March 21-April 19
You’ve worked hard to grow your skills and you’ve picked up some fun techniques along the way. Now it’s time to see how far you’ve come by starting a bigger WIP then you’re used to. Trust your gut. You know what you can handle. Lean into your crafting dreams and pick up projects that “spark joy”.
Creative Suggestion: Even though you’re more than ready to take on this project that doesn’t mean there won’t be bumps on your road to this FO. Know when to ask for help. Sometimes all you need is a push in the right direction.
April 20-May 20
It’s the season of giving and working on a charity project has been on your mind. Luckily there are several ways you can use your craft to give back. In this case, two of your skills will come together as you work on this next WIP. This project is not only going to bring joy to others it’s also going to bring a lot of happiness to you.
Creative Suggestion: Check out this list of ways you can use your crafting practice to give back!
May 21-June 20
Getting organized will be key this month. You have a lot going on as you craft for yourself and others during the holiday season. Don’t let your need to control every aspect of your next WIP keep you from enjoying the process. Create freely and stay open!
Creative Suggestion: It’s going to be another month of getting organized. You have a big WIP coming soon. It’s a good idea to make sure your crafting space is ready for it!
June 21-July 22
It’s time to start something new. You’ve tried to work on projects like this one before but those haven’t always worked out. You can’t let the fear of not being able to do this next WIP keep you from trying. You have to trust your abilities and go for it! It’s going to be a fun process and you’re sure to learn a lot about yourself along the way.
Creative Suggestion: You know where to find the answers to any questions you might have. Start this new WIP on the right foot by picking up a new crafting book to support you as you craft.
July 23-August 22
As you work through your current WIP it’s going to be important that you trust your gut. If you feel like your project needs something different from what your directions and pattern are telling you to do, then don’t be afraid to try it. Make any adjustments that you think are right. You know best in this case. So trust that. You might regret it if you don’t. So listen to yourself.
Creative Suggestion: You already know what this WIP is missing. Trust yourself and don’t be afraid to make the necessary adjustments.
August 23-September 22
Move away from your comfort zone this month. You’ve been doing a lot of the same projects that use a lot of the same skills lately. Let’s break up this routine with something new and challenging. It’s going to be important that you focus on your own creative practice and not compare your projects with others. Social media can be a great source of inspiration, but it can be a little intimidating too. Everyone’s craft is different. What you are creating is just as special and exciting even if it’s different from what you originally planned.
Creative Suggestion: It’s impossible to suggest that you stay off of social media. So just try to stay in a positive mindset when looking at someone else’s work. Let it inspire you to create something new and not keep you from creating what you want to.
September 23-October 22
You’ve been working long and hard on your current WIP and you’re finally starting to see some tangible progress. That’s always an exciting moment in the creative process. Enjoy it! You’ve earned a mini celebration before it’s time to bind off. This project will push you past limitations that you’ve put on yourself and by the end, you will have learned a lot about what you’re really capable of.
Creative Suggestion: It’s going to be important that you communicate your ideas clearly with people you are working with this month. Speak from the heart and make sure you’re understood before moving forward.
October 23-November 21
It’s always exciting to begin a new project. There might be a few unexpected shifts ahead of you as you start this new WIP. Any challenges that you might face will be brief and if you push through those rough patches you will move through this project reasonably smoothly. Try not to let the unexpected completely through you off. Instead, remain flexible and open to what this WIP could become.
Creative Suggestion: While you work on this new WIP it might be helpful to also have a comforting backup project for when you are feeling frustrated. Have you thought about quilting? It would be a nice long term project to work on throughout the holidays.
